Endoscopy

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) – An upper endoscopy or upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, is a diagnostic procedure that is performed to view the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (part of the small intestine). Dr. Sousa may perform an EGD as part of the preoperative workup for Bariatric Surgery.

Colonoscopy – A colonoscopy is an exam used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine and rectum. If necessary, polyps or other types of abnormal tissue can be removed through the scope during the procedure. A colonoscopy typically takes about 30-45 minutes and the patient is able to go home after.
